NEWCASTLE MUST MOVE QUICKLY FOR ARSENAL’ S 17 -GOAL STRIKER REPORTEDLY AVAILABLE FOR TRANSFER

The Newcastle United fans in the Transfer Tavern are desperately hoping that Rafa Benitez will bring a new striker to the club this summer, and recent reports from London suggest a fantastic talent could be made available by Arsenal.

According to a recent report from the
London Evening Standard , Unai Emery is set for talks with a handful of players this week, one of which is Lucas Perez. The report claims that Emery is expected to tell Perez he can depart the club on a permanent deal following his loan spell at Deportivo La Coruna where he was a resounding success in La Liga.

The 29-year-old centre-forward contributed 17 goals in all-competitions including 9 goals and 8 assists as he adapted well to a league which he is arguably more suited to. Perez is a technically gifted player who is capable of operating in a number of attacking positions, and his versatility could be a huge asset for Benitez next season.

Although the report does not state the price Arsenal will demand for Perez’s services, it’s unlikely they will be slapping a huge price-tag on his head, so the Magpies should be able to sign him for a fee beneath their transfer record. With Emery looking to accumulate funds to secure new signings, Arsenal could be tempted to offload Perez on the cheap, and if that proves to be the case then Benitez should move quickly to secure his services before rival clubs begin to express an interest.

On paper, Perez is a player whom Benitez should naturally be an admirer of; he is technically gifted, a willing runner and capable of producing moments of magic in the final-third. The fact Perez and Benitez are fellow compatriots could also be a decisive factor within potential negotiations as Newcastle’s manager has shown touches of favouritism towards fellow Spaniards in the past.

In this day and age it’s difficult to sign a proven goalscorer for anything less than £20 million, but in Perez Newcastle could secure a rare bargain. At 29-years-old and surplus to requirements, Newcastle are in prime position to drive a hard bargain for Perez, and that’s exactly what they should do this summer providing Arsenal’s outcast is interested in a move to Tyneside.
