Lacazette & Torreira to start, Guendouzi out - Arsenal starting XI vs Cardiff in 4-2-3-1 system

Last weekend’s win against West Ham at the Emirates may not have seen Arsenal hit top gear, but it has at least given them something to build on as they continue to adjust to life under Unai Emery.

When Marko Arnautovic struck in the first half on Saturday, Arsenal were facing a third straight defeat, but they showed enough spirit to fight back and eventually run out 3-1 winners.

They now travel to newly promoted Cardiff on Sunday (1.30pm kick-off) looking for a first win under Unai Emery ahead of the opening international break of the season.
So who should start for the Gunners against Neil Warnock’s side in South Wales? Here’s the team our Arsenal correspondent Charles Watts would go for:
“It’s time for Alexandre Lacazette to get his first start of the season this weekend. He has had to wait patiently for a run-out from the start so far this campaign, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang getting the nod as the central striker in all three games.

"But Lacazette showed when he came on at half-time against West Ham what he can do and I feel the time is right to get him on from the start.

"I asked Emery after last weekend’s game if finding a way to accommodate both Lacazette and Aubameyang is one of his biggest challenges and he admitted that it is a struggle to get the balance right with both players on the pitch together.

"Arsenal are going to have most of the ball this weekend against Cardiff though, so that balance Emery talks about shouldn’t be too much of a problem, as long as the midfielder stays disciplined on the occasions when the hosts try to counter.

"So I would go with a front three of Aubameyang, Lacazette and Mkhitaryan, with Aaron Ramsey supporting them as the most advanced of the three central midfielders and Mesut Ozil on the bench.

"The central midfield pairing I would go for would be Lucas Torreira and Granit Xhaka. Matteo Guendouzi has been a breath of fresh air this summer but he struggled against West Ham and this might be the perfect time to give the teenager a bit of a breather.

"The defence then stays the same for me, with the same back four and keeper that started last weekend against West Ham."
