Unai Emery told Lucas Torreira what to do to be named in Arsenal's starting XI.

Unai Emery has told Lucas Torreira what he needs to do to be named in Arsenal's starting XI.

The Uruguayan moved to the Gunners for £25million following a series of superb displays at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, but has yet make his first start.

The 22-year-old has come off the bench in each of Arsenal's four Premier League games this season.

When the midfielder has featured he's impressed, and Gunners fans are keen to see more.

It was thought that the Uruguay ace would start ahead of Granit Xhaka for Arsenal's clash against Cardiff, especially given the Swiss star's recent poor form.

But Torreira was made to watch from the sides once again. Emery cleared up the situation in his post-match press conference.

"He’s improving," said the Spaniard. "He is getting to know his teammates.
"For me, all the minutes he is playing is important for his performance. He needs to continue working.

"But it’s very important for me to think about others players, Matteo has started well and Xhaka is very important. We need good players. Lucas is like that."
