Confirmed: Liverpool unsettled star on his way to Arsenal after rejecting contract extension

Arsenal are reportedly weighing up a bid for Alberto Moreno when the January transfer window opens, the Mirror reports.

Moreno, who joined the Liverpool in 2014, has lost his place to Andy Robertson under Jurgen Klopp and will be out of contract at Anfield in the summer.

Although there is the possibility of the fullback being offered an extension, he is unlikely to accept one and would favour a new challenge elsewhere.

Liverpool are not currently in negotiations with the 26-year-old and his representatives, and the player is understood to be exploring alternative options. Moreno would be free to sign a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club from January 1.

He has made just one first-team appearance this season, starting the Carabao Cup defeat to Chelsea last month, but remains a popular member of Jurgen Klopp’s squad.

He started last season as first-choice left-back, only to lose his place to Andy Robertson following an injury. Despite this, he finished the campaign having made 27 appearances in all competitions. His Liverpool total stands at 137.

Arsenal are among potential suitors, with manager Unai Emery having worked with the Spaniard at his previous club Sevilla.

Although Nacho Monreal has impressed Emery enough to maintain his status as first choice left back at the Emirates Stadium, the Gunners boss is looking for suitable back-ups.

Sead Kolasinac has fallen well out of favour, with Ainsley Maitland-Niles currently providing cover at left back.
