The Premier League giants Manchester United central defender Phil Jones has reportedly appeared as a surprise transfer target for Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal, according to the latest reports.
Jones’s current deal at Old Trafford expires at the end of this campaign, although Manchester United are expected to activate a 12-month extension clause in order to avoid losing their key defender on a free transfer.
The 26-year-old star could still leave the club in summer, though, and a sports radio station talkSPORT reports that Gunners and Spurs are among the interested parties.
A mixture of fitness and form has limited Jones to just two appearances thus far this season, although coach Jose Mourinho is still understood to want to keep the England international star at Old Trafford.
Manchester United’s management are also reluctant to sell Phil to a direct top-six rival, although Red Devils could have limited influence on his destination if they do not agree on a new contract.
Phil Jones has been a Manchester United player since 2011, making almost 200 appearances for the Manchester-based outfit across all competitions.
