Liverpool legend expects 30-year-old star to part ways with Arsenal this month

Mesut Ozil is searching for a January departure from Arsenal and will likely depart from the club, according to ex-Liverpool player Steve Nicol.

The German star has often found himself out of favour under Spanish manager Unai Emery and his half-time substitution against Brighton & Hove Albion on Boxing Day further threw his long-term future into doubt.

Speaking to ESPN, Steve said he expects Ozil to push for a transfer and sees it coming to fruition this month:

“It’s a matter of time. I’m sure he’ll be hoping it’ll happen in January. The new rules mean that teams in the Champions League can sign one player, he would be a great addition for anybody.”

“Wages are going to be a problem, but I think he will move and a deal will be sorted one way or another.”

Ozil’s future emerges to lie away from Gunners, bringing an end to five years at the Emirates Stadium.

This season, in all competitions, the former Werder Bremen and Real Madrid player has made 16 appearances, netted 4 goals and provided 2 assists for the north London giants so far.
