Mesut Ozil leaves UK to clear his head amid Unai Emery problems at Arsenal

The 30-year-old was left out of Arsenal's Europa League squad midweek in the latest setback of a difficult season

Mesut Ozil has escaped the UK for a break from his Arsenal woes

Mesut Ozil has headed to Turkey for a weekend away as speculation around his Arsenal future continues to mount.

The Gunners midfielder is said to be at odds with current manager Unai Emery , and has taken the opportunity for a break from the UK.

Ozil is a descendant of Turkey, and posted a picture to Instagram of him in the country with his girlfriend, Amine Gulse, on Sunday.

It comes following Emery's decision to leave Ozil out of Arsenal's Europa League squad which travelled to Belarus in midweek.

Arsenal were beaten 1-0 against BATE in the competition, with Ozil posting a cryptic message on Twitter the following day.

Ozil wrote: "When you start supporting a football club, you don't support it because of the trophies, or a player, or history.

"You support it because you found yourself somewhere there; found a place where you belong."

The quote was said previously by Arsenal legend Dennis Bergkamp, who showed his support for the tweet, along with a number of Ozil's current and former teammates.

Alexandre Lacazette, Alex Iwobi, Sead Kolasinac and Granit Xhaka all liked the post, along with ex-Gunners Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Jack Wilshere.

It has been a difficult season for Ozil, who has found himself in and out of the side at the Emirates under the new Emery regime.

Relations between Ozil and manager Unai Emery appear fractured

Former Arsenal star Emmanuel Petit gave his thoughts on the German's predicament, suggesting a lack of motivation was perhaps to blame.

Petit said: "I have huge respect for Ozil but the Ozil I used to watch years ago, he was one of the best attacking midfield players in the world, he was a pleasure to watch.

"Now it's not even a pleasure or a desire to see him in the team because he's lost it.

"Ozil is a big player but he's not a big personality. He never talks. Sometimes I think he's a ghost on the pitch.

"He never says anything to his team-mates. He never shows any emotion."

Arsenal are next in action on Thursday in the second leg of the clash with BATE.
