Arsenal deliberating on this players for Summer transfer list

Arsenal transfer news includes a look at who the Gunners could target in the summer to transform their squad

It was a tough month for Arsenal in the January transfer window as the club went shopping in the bargain basement in an attempt to strengthen Unai Emery’s squad.

With no money available for transfers, the club could only operate in the loan market - with several players targeted by the north London club.

Only one arrived however, with Denis Suarez coming in from Barcelona after a month-long chase.

Suarez could could join permanently in the summer, with Arsenal able to purchase the attacking midfielder for £18 million, although that looks unlikely given his limited game time since switching the Camp Nou for the Emirates.

Unlike in January, money will be available to Arsenal once the current season comes to an end - with the new commercial deals with Adidas and Emirates helping swell the coffers and the prospect of Champions League football returning next season looking promising.

Should that happen, then the expected budget of around £45 million will increase, while there could be more funds generated by the sale of players currently in the squad, such as Shkodran Mustafi and Mohamed Elneny.

Shkodran Mustafi could be on his way out of Arsenal.

So we’ve taken a look at five players who should be on the agenda at the Emirates this summer, but also included a further five who could probably be more realistic cheaper options, given we all know how the club likes to operate with its money.

Samuel Umtiti

Arsenal will be in the market for a centre-back this summer an there are few more appealing than Samuel Umtiti.

The French defender may have had his issues with injury this season, but when he is fit and available there are few that can match his talent in the heart of the defence.

The prospect of Barcelona selling a player then only tied down last year to a new long-term contract is unlikely, but having already shelled out £65m to bring in Frankie de Jong from Ajax they are expected to go big again to bring in De Jong’s former teammate Matthijs de Ligt at the end of the season.

With funds also expected to be splashed out on a striker and a central midfielder, it could be that the Spanish giants look to cash in on one of their high profile stars to help raise funds.

Given his recent injury record and the expected arrival of  de Ligt, Umtiti could be that man.

Ezri Konsa

A highly-rated young central defender who has had a fine season with Brentford.

Arsenal have been watching Konsa for some time now and the Bees are aware that they will not be able to hang on to their young centre-back for too much longer.

The 21-year-old could be available for around £15 million, a significantly cheaper option than Umtiti.

Matthijs de Ligt

Let’s face it, this one is all but impossible.

But if the supremely talented de Ligt is to leave Ajax in the summer, then Arsenal should certainly at least try and be in the mix for his signature.

The young centre-back is a huge talent and it would take around £70m to land in.

That’s a figure that would be incredibly difficult for Arsenal to hit, however, with Barcelona favourites to sign the young Dutchman.

Fernando Calero

A talented young Spanish centre-back who would not break the bank to sign.

Arsenal have been scouting Calero for some time and there was speculation they could have looked to bring him in during the January window.

The lack of funds made that impossible, however, but Arsenal could make a move for the Real Valladolid defender this summer.

There are even suggestions that Calero has a release clause in his contract which could see him leave for just £10m.

Nicolas Pepe

You feel that Arsenal have missed the boat when it’s come to Lille’s impressive young winger.

The Gunners were interested in Pepe last summer but didn’t make a move and the 23-year-old has now enjoyed a breakthrough season in France.

He has scored 17 goals in 30 games so far and has spearheaded Lille’s bid for a Champions League spot.

Arsenal want to bring in a wide attacking this summer and Pepe fits the bill perfectly. But unfortunately for the north Londoners his price tag has spiralled given his performances this season.

Bayern Munich are now believed to be leading the chase for Pepe, who is being valued at around the £75m mark.

Robert Skov

While Pepe’s goalscoring exploits this season have been impressive, they are nothing when compared to Robert Skov.

The 22-year-old has been a revelation for FC Copenhagen, scoring 23 goals in 32 appearances - a haul that includes three league hat-tricks.

Skov is a winger who likes to play on the right so he can cut inside on his favourite left foot. His set piece delivery is exceptional, with the youngster scoring eight times from free-kicks already this season.

Several Premier League clubs have been linked with the impressive young attacker, with Spurs said to be keeping tabs on his progress.

Kai Havertz

Arsenal need to find a replacement for Aaron Ramsey and there are few young midfielders in Europe as impressive as Havertz.

The Bayer Leverkusen teenager has already found the net 13 times this season, with 11 of those goals coming in the Bundesliga.

Former head of recruitment Sven Mislintat was believed to be very keen on Havertz, who has also been attracting interest from several other of Europe’s elite.

It would take a big offer for Leverkusen to be tempted to cash in on their midfielder though, something that could see Arsenal priced out of a move.

Christopher Nkunku

A more realistic option perhaps than Havertz to come in and try to fill the void left by Ramsey.

Arsenal pushed to sign the PSG youngster in January, but were unable to strike a deal. They are expected to rekindle their interest at the end of the season, however.

PSG need to sell players and Nkunku is one is believed to be on his way out at the French champions.

Arsenal’s interest in the attacking midfielder pre-dates Unai Emery’s arrival, but the Spaniard is a fan of the 21-year-old - who has found the net four times this season.

A bid of between £15m-£20m could be enough to get a deal done.

Alex Grimaldo

Bringing in a left-back is seen as key at Arsenal this summer and Grimaldi is a player they have looked at.

The highly-rated Spaniard has impressed massively at Benfica having made the move from Barcelona in 2016 but is believed to be pursuing a switch to the Premier League.

He has taken on new representatives to help get him his move, although Benfica would not want to lose the 23-year-old.

It would take around £30m/£35m to prize him out of Portugal. Kieran Tierney at Celtic is another option and would command a similar price tag.

Albert Moreno

The Liverpool left-back is available on a free transfer this summer and is a player Unai Emery knows well from his days with Sevilla.

Moreno has hardly covered himself in glory at Anfield but with his contract up in the summer, he could represent of a cheap way of Arsenal bolstering their options at left-back.

Sead Kolasinac, who has been hugely impressive in recent weeks, could remain as first choice, with the 26-year-old Moreno providing back up with Nacho Monreal, should the 33-year-old stay at the Emirates.
