Arsenal team news: 5-3-2 line up vs Newcastle - Lacazette starts

ARSENAL welcome Newcastle to the Emirates on Monday night knowing that victory will move them third in the Premier League table.

Much to many people’s surprise this season, Unai Emery’s men have maintained the form and mounted a tilt at the top four.

And they have been imperious on their own patch, winning their last nine league matches at the Emirates.

The Gunners may have to shuffle their pack somewhat for the game with injuries and suspensions piling up.

Lucas Torreira will miss the game after his straight red card against Tottenham.

Meanwhile, Aaron Ramsey and Granit Xhaka are among a host of injury doubts but Emery is hopeful the duo can recovery in time.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference on Friday, the Gunners manager said: "We trained this morning and some players rested for giving them one day more to train with us tomorrow.

“Aaron Ramsey, Dinos Mavropanos. I think they can be ready for Monday."

Emery added: ”Xhaka also rested today, we’re going to wait tomorrow and Sunday but the first previews from the doctor is that he can progress to be ready for Monday."

Rob Holding, Danny Welbeck and Hector Bellerin remain absent while Nacho Monreal will be assessed closer to kick off.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Sead Kolasinac should start as wing-backs while Shkodran Mustafi and Laurent Koscielny will flank Sokratis Papastathopoulos.

Alex Iwobi and Henrikh Mkhitaryan may have to settle for a place on the bench with Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang potentailly starting together up front.

Three points for Arsenal will move them above rivals Tottenham into third place after they lost to Liverpool on Sunday.

And with only teams left to play from outside the top six, fans will be dreaming of a return back to the Champions League next season.

The Gunners have not played since securing their spot in the quarter-finals of the Europa League two weeks ago with a 3-0 victory over Rennes.

Emery and his men have spent the international break enjoying a warm-weather training camp in Dubai so have had plenty of time to prepare for Newcastle.

Arsenal predicted starting XI vs Newcastle: Leno; Maitland-Niles, Mustafi, Sokratis, Koscielny, Kolasinac; Guendouzi, Xhaka, Ramsey; Lacazette, Aubameyang
