A must read: Arsenal on the race for Dani Ceballos from Real Madrid.

ARSENAL have moved past Tottenham and into pole position in the race to sign Dani Ceballos from Real Madrid.

Real Madrid are reportedly ready to listen to offers for Dani Ceballos with several clubs including Arsenal and Tottenham all reportedly interested in the talented youngster.

Ceballos is still on holiday, after coming off a victorious tournament with Spain at the European Under-21 Championship, but the midfielder is reportedly not in Zinedine Zidane’s plans at Real Madrid for next season.

The 22-year-old has been adamant he will prioritise playing time when looking at the options available to him, as he comes off a season for Los Blancos where he scored three goals in 13 La Liga starts.

Ceballos’ situation at the Bernabeu is being monitored by several big clubs across Europe, but according to Spanish publication Marca, it is now Arsenal who are in pole position to sign the player.

Gunners boss Unai Emery is looking to strengthen several areas of his squad this summer and has been interested in bringing in an additional attacking player after both Danny Welbeck and Aaron Ramsey left the club at the end of their contracts this summer.

Emery is working with a limited transfer budget of £45m this summer and according to reports in Spain they are favouring a loan deal with an option to buy Ceballos at a later date.

However it is not clear if this option would be acceptable to Real, as the club are still looking to raise funds for additional transfers with Zidane putting the finishing touches on his new-look side for next season.

It is understood Real have a preference to include a buy-back option in any possible deal, but the teams interested in Ceballos will take hope from his recent comments about the likelihood of him leaving the Spanish capital during this transfer window.

“The most important thing in this life is to be happy and it is something that can only be achieved by playing 40 games a year,” he previously said.

“My personal goal for next season is to play 40 games, to get comfortable with myself at all times.

“Wherever it is, but in a place where I can feel valued.”

Upon returning from winning the under-21 Euros Ceballos insisted he had “no specific” league in mind for his next move but isn’t worried about leaving Spain.

“What I know is that I want to enjoy next year and I am open to try new experiences, I am not afraid,” he said.

“I know that next year I have a very nice challenge ahead.

“I would like to try new things and, above all, enjoy a lot.”

In other transfer news Arsenal are close to completing a deal for Saint-Etienne defender William Saliba, who will then be loaned back to the Ligue 1 club for next season.

The 18-year-old is expected to sign in the near future, however, the €30m (£27m) deal will not dip heavily into the Gunners’ current transfer budget, as payments for the centre-back are expected to be made in instalments.
