Good News!!! Arsenal confident deal for William Saliba won’t affect this summer’s transfer funds

Arsenal are confident the signing of William Saliba will not eat half of their £40million transfer budget, according to reports.

The Gunners are closing in on the centre-back and are ready to agree a deal in the region of £25m with Saint-Etienne.

The French club are insisting Saliba is loaned straight back to them for the new season and Arsenal are prepared to meet that demand.

But the Evening Standard claim Arsenal are hoping to convince Saint-Etienne that only a small fraction of the overall deal is required this summer.

Arsenal would like to pay most of the transfer fee next summer, considering Saliba will spend the next year in France and not at the Emirates.

If Arsenal can come to terms with Saint-Etienne, they will preserve the bulk of their modest transfer budget.

Unai Emery has been struggling to land his top targets this summer because of the financial restrictions placed on him.

The Arsenal boss is seeking a new centre-back, left-back, midfielder and winger, and has seen bids rejected for Wilfried Zaha and Kieran Tierney.

Saliba, 18, is an excellent prospect and highly rated in France, but Emery is keen for reinforcements that can go straight into his side.

There are rumours Emery might look to offload some of his players to raise further funds, while reports last week claimed Arsenal’s transfer chiefs were ready to appeal to club owner Stan Kroenke to raise the budget.

Arsenal’s squad have reported for pre-season and will kick off their preparations for the new campaign against Colorado Rapids on 16 July.
