Insider warns Arsenal, Man United need Champions League football to sign top 22-year-old

Leon Goretzka will only consider a move to a Champions League club in the summer, Dharmesh Sheth has warned Arsenal and Manchester United.
The Schalke 04 midfielder is one of the top free agent prospects ahead of the summer transfer window with little over six months remaining on the 22-year-old’s current contract with the Bundesliga outfit.
Goretzka has been heavily linked with a potential move to the Premier League in recent months amid reported interest from top-six clubs such as Arsenal, Liverpool FC and Manchester United.
The versatile midfielder is also wanted by Serie A champions Juventus, who have also been keeping tabs on Liverpool FC’s number 23.
Goretzka has been likened to Juventus midfielder Sami Khedira following a promising start to his Bundesliga career at Schalke 04.
The German international has scored four goals in 11 appearances in the Bundesliga this season to attract interest from top European club given his intriguing contract situation at Schalke.
Sky Sports News reporter Sheth warned Arsenal and Manchester United that Goretzka’s decision could depend on whether the Premier League duo are in next season’s Champions League.
“It could be dependent on getting Champions League football next summer,” Sheth told the
Transfer Talk podcast on Sky Sports.
“Will Arsenal or Man United qualify for the Champions League next summer? That could be a factor as well.”
Manchester United are in second place in the Premier League table and look on course to finish in the top four.
