Liverpool legend explains why this £35m signing isn't "good enough" for Arsenal

Shkodran Mustafi isn't good enough for Arsenal, according to former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher.
A big money signing from La Liga outfit Valencia in the 2016 summer transfer window, the German international was initially viewed as the player to finally bring calm to a Gunners defence that hasn't been secure since the days of Sol Campbell, Tony Adams and Kolo Toure.
All signs were good at the start of last season as he managed to forge a good understanding alongside Laurent Koscielny at the heart of the Arsenal defence until an injury suffered in the 3-1 win over Stoke City halted his progress.
Upon returning a few weeks later, Mustafi couldn't regain his early season form and produced arguably his worst display in a Gunners shirt during the 3-0 loss away at Crystal Palace in April 2017 - a game which sparked Arsene Wenger into switching to a three at the back formation.
Usually operating in the middle of the three, the 25-year-old has made 14 appearances across all competitions so far this season and it was his display in Wednesday night's 2-2 draw with Chelsea - when playing alongside Calum Chambers and Rob Holding - that has prompted Carragher to question if he's a good enough fit for the north London outfit.
"Mustafi, to be honest, I don't think was great at helping two young lads around him," Carragher told Sky Sports .
"It's not just about having young players there, I don't think Mustafi is good enough really.”

With Koscielny struggling with injuries and Per Mertesacker set to retire at the end of the campaign, Mustafi finds himself as one of the senior defenders in the squad and his experience will likely be needed during what promises to be a testing next few months for the club.
When on form he's capable of managing such feats as seven Premier League clean sheets in a row - as well as scoring the opener in a derby win over Tottenham Hotspur - but error-strewn showings against Manchester United and Chelsea show that he still lacks any consistency.
