Arsenal in danger to miss out signing of in-demand 26-year-old defender

Reports in Italy claim that Stefan de Vrij has agreed to join Inter at the end of the season on a free transfer.
The Lazio star’s contract terminates in June, and the 26-year-old has been attracting the attention of numerous clubs, including Man United, Arsenal and Liverpool.
The Netherlands international was thought to be keen on a transfer to Old Trafford, but it seems the centre-back has now determined to remain in Serie A.
Corriere Dello Sport claim that Inter have reached an agreement with De Vrij to join them at the end of the current season. The same story also suggests that the Serie A giants have convinced Juventus midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah to follow De Vrij to the San Siro.
Lazio have made many efforts to tempt De Vrij to sign a contract renewal with the club, but notwithstanding the promise of a healthy wage hike, the Dutchman has rejected all their proposals.
The Serie A side confirmed earlier this month that De Vrij would not be putting pen to paper on a contract extension and would depart the club in the summer.
‘We’ll explain our reasons later,’ sporting director Igli Tare announced to Mediaset. ‘There’s a limit, and that’s been breached, and it’s now become a question of correctness.
